EKODISEINATUZ 2026

The Basque Circular Hub prepares the 2026 edition of the Ekodiseinatuz programme for university students

Basque Circular Hub, the advanced circular economy services centre of the Basque Country managed by Ihobe, the Public Environmental Management Agency of the Basque Government, is working on the design of the 2026 edition of the Ekodiseinatuz programme, a circular economy training and internship programme aimed at university students. This programme includes fully subsidised training and the possibility of undertaking paid internships in companies, with the support of expert tutors in the field.

The Ekodiseinatuz programme aims to improve the employability of young people by complementing their academic training and meeting the growing labour market demand for professionals skilled in circular economy.

It is aimed at young people residing in the Basque Autonomous Community who are studying technical degrees (engineering, sciences and similar fields) and are currently in the second-to-last year of their undergraduate studies.

Provisionally, the training programme for young participants is expected to begin in autumn 2026, likely in October. Final details regarding dates, format, number of places and the registration process will be published soon on the Basque Circular Hub website.

These are some tentative details based on previous editions:

Programme focus

The training and internships in Basque companies focus on the development of environmental assessment projects with a life‑cycle and ecodesign approach for circularity, both from an organisational and a product or service perspective. This includes the calculation and analysis of environmental metrics, ecodesign projects, development of environmental product declarations and environmental labelling, as well as the application of new requirements for more efficient material use.

Training:

The training provides a practical overview of technical and methodological aspects related to the circular economy. It also delves into the use of environmental metrics for organisations and products, as well as the use of the Climate & Circularity Calculator.

Training is delivered online (MOOC format), with flexible access and personalised weekly tutoring sessions to resolve questions and guide learning.

Provisional start of training: October 2026, with a maximum duration of 4 weeks.

Internship conditions

Internships, which are not guaranteed, will depend on the availability of interested companies and will last 5 months. The weekly working hours will be established in the agreement signed with the student’s home university. The financial support may range from €300 to €1,250 per month, in addition to social security contributions paid by the company.

Provisional start of internships: January 2027
