DEVELOPMENT OF CHARACTERISATION FACTORS

DEVELOPMENT OF CHARACTERISATION FACTORS

The Basque Circular Hub, through Ihobe, has launched a new on‑demand characterisation factor (CF) generation service for the Climate & Circularity Calculator (3C) tool. This service aims to optimise the functionality of this tool, enabling organisations to improve the assessment of their environmental impact and their performance in terms of sustainability and circular economy.

What does the service consist of?

The 3C tool already has a robust database of factors that allow the assessment of environmental impacts across multiple life‑cycle stages. This new service will enable organisations in the Basque Country to request the generation of specific factors that are not currently available in the tool.

Once created, these factors will not only be available to the requesting entity but will also be integrated into future updates of the 3C tool, benefiting the entire user community. Requests will be evaluated and prioritised according to technical criteria, significance for the Basque industrial ecosystem, and development feasibility.

Target audience

The service is aimed at individuals and legal entities located in the Basque Country that use the 3C tool for educational purposes or for the environmental management of their own organisations. Requesting entities must have at least one registered office in the Basque Country.

Service conditions

  • Application period: Requests are open throughout the year.
  • Evaluation: Each request will be reviewed and evaluated within a maximum of 21 calendar days. The generation of the requested factor will be subject to criteria such as relevance, technical feasibility and benefit to the Basque industrial ecosystem.
  • Notifications: Users will be informed at each stage of the process, including registration confirmation, requests for additional information (if necessary), and the final resolution.

Requirements for requests

To ensure effective development of the characterisation factors, requesting entities must provide detailed information on:

  1. The characteristics of the requested factor.
  2. The environmental assessment framework in which it will be applied (carbon footprint, environmental footprint or circularity analysis).
  3. The inventory data required for modelling.
  4. The absence of key information may result in the request being denied.
